Mark Lysowski, b1961, a retired instructor of three dimensional design, constantly dissects and visualizes all physical objects throughout daily life, separating their functions, but using them for their basic formal art elements such as shape, line, color etc... It is pure abstraction.

Mark lives and works in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He has shown his work at the Butler Institute of American Art, the Cleveland, Erie and Columbus Museums of Art, the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts and various galleries in NYC. Today, Mark is being represented by The Michael Hertrich gallery in Harrisburgh, PA.

My work reflects transformations within media throughout time. While working in the abstract, I find myself challenged to solve aesthetic problems. I use different processes and media to evoke emotion. Dangerous and threatening shapes intimidate one’s sense of power. Playful and primitive shapes allow subconscious relationships to form in everyday objects. These shapes control the composition within the work and induce the basic elements of art. I have discovered that it is through the creation and combination of these forms that I am provided with an infinite palette.
